— Little Germany Heritage Project

Background

Impact Hub Bradford have initiated efforts to showcase the unique heritage of Little Germany, through support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project was kickstarted and launched at the UKREIFF 2024 conference and is set to be concluded in May 2025. The project has focussed on efforts to engage and highlight the heritage of Little Germany with local stakeholders passionate to highlight the special heritage in a neighbourhood that has one of the most densely concentrated number of heritage buildings in the country. The area is circa 20 acres and out of the 80 or so buildings, approximately 55 of those are listed and have a played a unique role in the development of Bradford in many sectors from business, commerce, arts, culture and politics.

The project outcomes will include the following:
 
  • Assembly of local stakeholder group
  • Installation of new blue plaques
  • A new website and bespoke branding for the area that will include a Film and Heritage trail
  • Heritage Day (May 2025)
  • Video/Photography
  • Surveys/Engagement on Little Germany locally
 
The project stakeholder group is chaired by James Mason (Ceo of W&NYC) and includes representatives from:
 
  • West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce (HQ is situated at Devere House in the area)
  • Businesses that include Schofield Sweeney solicitors
  • Developers and property agents who are active in the area
  • Council (conservation & planning officers) and also Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw (Portfolio Holder for Regeneration)
  • Centre Manager of Broadway Shopping Centre
  • Ceo of the BID (Business Improvement District)
